Darkover is the setting for a series of novels by Marion Zimmer Bradley. Originally inspired by The King In Yellow and intended to be set on an alternate Earth, she later relocated the setting to an alien world and took it in a divergent direction, unaware of the developing Carcosa Mythos.
Although not set on a planet orbiting Aldebaran, Darkover does orbit a not dissimilar red giant star.
Names inspired by the Carcosa Mythos can be found in the series, despite no direct links, such as the clan Hastur, the domains of Hastur and Elhalyn and the town of Hali.
