Elven is the name of a French town that Severn knows, where he once fell in love with a Sylvia - although he doubts they are the same at first, it seems Sylvia Elven is the Sylvia he once loved. It is suggested that her name may be a pseudonym. She may be the same character as Sylvia in The Street of The First Shell.
