The Queen In Red comes from a line in a song - "E.T.I. (Extra Terrestrial Intelligence)" - by Blue Oyster Cult ("Books by the blameless and by the dead/King In Yellow, Queen In Red") that Kevin Ross used as inspiration for the description of a book about a mysterious, deathless entity depicted by a Florentine fresco as a bat-winged woman with clawed hands. John Tynes would later use the line, and likely Ross' aforementioned book, as inspirations for a strand of his version of The Hastur Mythos. The Call of Cthulhu RPG Malleus Monstrorum would later depict the entity as an avatar of Nyarlathotep, although that's unlikely to be the case in Tynes' version of it.

The line may have been inspired by The Red Queen. See also The Red Death and The Queen In Yellow.
